This RASSOR concept uses an eccentric shaft which drives the shutter plates at each scoop. By holding the eccentric shaft in a downward position and turning the drum the device can scoop up regolith and hold it in the scoop till the drum has turned far enough to release the regolith and let it fall inside. At the same time regolith is kept from falling outside by the shutter plates. By slowly turning the eccentric shaft from a downward to an upward position which leads to opening the shutter plates at the underside and turning the drum in the opposite direction the collected regolith is able to escape through the now open shutter.
To calculate the weight of the assembly I assumed the bucket drum collector will be made mostly out of aluminium which resulted in a total mass of 4,711kg this does not include cover plates which are made out of composite polymer material. Also due to unknown stress the aluminium sheets are a bit thicker to reduce stress which lead to overall more weight.
The bucket drum has a maximum filling ratio of 35,14Liters but is only operational till 27,83Liters at this volume the drum is 79,16%(roughly 80%) filled. A filling ratio of 100% is not possible because the shutter plates need a certain degree of movement freedom.
