This started out to be a design to make a test part in plastic before having an aluminum bed cut back in December. I put the idea away for a couple of months. My interest was renewed after seeing a thread on the 3dprintboard.com about having a 12" aluminum bed cut. After working thru the design some, I realized that it might actually be possible to make a working plastic y-bed in 2 parts. This is the 1st released version of this design. There is plenty of room for improvements in this design, but for now it suits my needs.
I have only done 1 print so far using this new configuration & have not used it with heat. Hopefully the insulation & brass will give it enough support in a heated environment.
I used the belt clamping idea from:http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:643799 to create my y-axis belt clamp.
I also started to use an idea from an image in this thread http://3dprintboard.com/showthread.php?11867-12-quot-Alum-Y-Plate&p=54207#post54207, but then the design turned into more like a quadcopter design before I added the extra ledge at the ends of the y-axis.

After printing on this for a few weeks, I have only noticed one problem & that is with my cork insulation. It presses against the binder clips. I moved them about 2.5" to 3" from the corners so they do not affect leveling the bed. If they are between the Wheels and the corner, you can not level the bed very well. The other option would be to cut out the cork around the clips. I still have not printed with heat on the bed yet.
