I needed to markup a lot of holes on 1" centers and 1/2" from an edge, so I made this very simple jig to make life easier. It worked well, so just in case it's useful to you, here it is :)
There is a slot in the middle with angled ends for lining up with a distance mark as well as triangular notches at each end. The two holes are conical to give good alignment on an automatic center punch, and there is a lip which aligns with the outer edge. It's really very quick to use compared to measuring and punching by eye.
Update: sorry, I messed up the title, hope this didn't confuse anyone. The first hole is 0.5 inches from the edge, the second hole is at 1.5 inches, i.e. 1" between centers.
