About
My plastic loving cat decided that he likes the smell of PLA and wants to eat it. This gave me the idea of making a toy for him, and there's no beating the classic image of a cat playing with a ball of yarn!
Printing
Printed at 0.2mm.
Print with supports.
Keep the open end face up so that the supports do not fill up the bowl.
Fusion 360 file included for easy editing. There are parameters for the outer wall thickness, the catnip hole size, ring thickness & size (so you can easily adjust it if you have a different kind/size of yarn), and a tolerance for the male plug (so you can change it based on your printer's tolerance/how it prints).
Putting it together
Use a very very long piece of yarn, maybe 30+ feet. I ran out a lot quicker than I thought I would.
The holes are only for starting the wrap. I wouldn't advise putting more than one line through them because it should be covered at the end.
Wrap the yarn under the previous wrapped lines every few wraps. If you try to wrap too much without securing it, then if it comes undone it will all come undone.
Wrapping it properly is actually the hardest part. It is better to have too much string than too little so you can cover everything completely and secure it.
