We are slowly releasing all of the designs for our 360 rigs and related products here on Thingiverse -- we have sold many but the market is slowing down for 360 rigs while our threaded inserts used in them are getting more and more popular. We hope releasing the STL files freely will encourage greater adoption of our designs, and we intend to continue supplying the inserts for the long term, and the COTS components for at least the medium term.
This is a 3" "bull bar" (the D shaped bar people put on trucks, shown in the pictures) mount for a GoPro, or similar camera. It separates into two halves, which are joined on one end by a "puzzle piece" style joint, and the other end uses M5 machine screws and 2 M5 threaded heat-set inserts, which are inserted from the opposite side for an extra-strong grip.
We ship these to customers with a strip of rubber gasket material to go between the bull bar and the mount itself to ensure a snug fit. You can use neoprene or similar drawer or toolbox liner - there is a Husky version at home depot (near the truck tool box / towing section) that is very good, and the harbor freight version works well also and is much cheaper. The harbor freight version is probably about 1/3 the thickness, which is good or bad depending on the actual diameter of your bull bar.
I drove the entire Dalton Highway (Alaska - Ice Road Truckers) in the summer time (Its an extremely rough drive without snow/ice to smooth out the road) as well as many other long drives over Alaska and Canada's roughest roads without a single problem - with an extended battery attached to the camera. I was a bit nervous about this mount when I designed it, but it has absolutely proven itself and customers around the world are using it without a single problem reported.
Printed in ABS with fairly heavy infill - especially the puzzle piece portion you want to print your ABS hot and heavy.
Only problem - uncoated ABS will discolor over a year or so. It is almost time for me to print a new one because my black filament has turned gray. There are probably coatings or other filaments that should be considered, but no big deal. ABS is up to the job.
You will need a few sizes of of threaded inserts -- which is now our primary product line.
These are available on both eBay and Amazon.
The 2 halves use M5 (short) inserts, inserted from the opposite side of the screws (so that the force of the screws pulls the inserts into the plastic rather than out. The camera mount uses #6-32(short) inserts.
