Discovery 1 EVA Pod The EVA pods seen in the movie 2001 – A Space Odyssey were three identical single occupant spacecraft used for extra-vehicular activity that were carried aboard the US Spacecraft Discovery 1 on its’ mission to the planet Jupiter to investigate a radio signal sent there from the mysterious 3 million year old Tyco Magnetic Anomaly-One (TMA-1) monolith discovered buried on the Moon in 1999. This model represents one of these pods, along with a model of the retractable pod turntable that the pods sit on within the Discovery’s Pod Bay. Also included in this version of the model is a copy of Astronaut David Bowman, my highly modified and detailed version of Max Grueters excellent Astronaut Dave Bowman II, Due to the size of this model (58mb), I've included a download link to the model Model Background Because of Stanley Kubrick’s decision to destroy all shooting models and plans at the end of the film’s production, modelers must rely on a limited number of remaining pre and post production still photos, copies of the film itself, and various print and internet references in recreating models from the film. Based on these various sources, including photos of actor Keir Dullea as astronaut Dave Bowman within the EVA pod, I’ve set the diameter of the pod at 91 inches. #Kubrick, #2001, #Discovery, #HAL9000s, #space, #sci_fi, #moon, #Jupiter, #monolith, #Bowman, #Poole
