DylanVanAssche's z-endstop extender was a good start, but I wanted to remove the glue from the process.
If you are reasonably sure that you can print accurately, I think this part is preferable.
To install:
Raise the bed to the top position.
Flip the printer so that is lying face down, with the rear pointed upwards.
Remove the four screws that hold the z-axis carriage to the bed.
Gently pull the z-rod away from the body of the printer and rotate the z-axis carriage is reversed.
Slide the extender over the small tab which is the existing z-axis endstop.
Re-assemble.
I actually ended up cutting about 3/4 of the endstop extender away -- you the amount of extension you will need of course depends on the modification you are doing.
