This is my rendition of a ship similar to the USS Mayflower. The Mayflower, a steampowered luxury yacht, was built by the J. & G. Thompson & Son company in 1896 and was commissioned by the US Navy twice between March 24, 1898 to March 22, 1929. During the Spanish-American War, she captured the Spanish ship Santiago Apostol and spent some time guarding the ports of Santiago de Cuba and Cienfuegos. 7 years later, the ship was recommissioned by Theodore Roosevelt in 1905 during the Russo-Japanese War for use as a place for negotiation amongst the two delegations. The ship played an important role in the talks that would lead to the Treaty of Portsmouth and the nobel peace price for Roosevelt. After several years as the Presidential Yacht, Herbert Hoover decided to relase the Mayflower in an attempt to reduce unnecesarry spending in 1929. Following a tenure in private ownership, the Coast Guard commissioned the ship following The United State's entry into WWII. She was amptly renamed the Butte and was in service from October 19, 1943 to July 1, 1946. The Mayflower was bought for one last time by the Israeli Navy and named the 'INS Maoz (K 24)' in 1950. #1898 #auxiliary #Great_White_Fleet #Israeli_Navy #Mayflower #navy #RussoJapanese_War #SpanishAmerican_War #steel #Treaty_of_Portsmouth #USS #WWI #WWII #Yacht
