The Pullman Historic District: Market Hall and Market Square

This Market Hall building was the second one to occupy this site. Built in 1893, it replaced one destroyed by fire in 1892, only one year after its construction. Both buildings were designed by Solon Spencer Beman. Fire was a persistent enemy of this facility; the building burned again in 1931. At this time, all save the ground floor and the arcaded buildings was taken down. The building burned again in the late 20th century, and today consists of nothing more than the outer walls. (The arcaded buildings surrounding it, however, are in pristine condition.)
