A Soap Box Derby racer and Local Sr. Champion, designed, constructed and driven in 1976 by J.C. (John) Rather of Green Bay, Wisconsin. The torpedo-shaped body was a well-constructed, wood-slat monocoque over a short wheelbase, the front axle being place rearward as was typical of successfully competitive racers of the day. This particular car sported a layback design, which included a stylishly aerodynamic headrest fairing reminiscent of Soap Box racers from the late 1930s. Young John was awarded Best Constructed Racer in Green Bay, and would go on to race again a month later at the World Championships in Akron. This model is created from color photographs showing views of the car from multiple angles. The steering and brakes, which I tried to reproduce faithfully, are quite detailed. The car is equipped with the official All-American Soap Box Derby Championship wheels, painted gold for 1976, with livery showing the driver's sponsor, Firestone Tires, and John's name J.C..
