It's time for a useful spool holder. I got my first roll of PETG about a week ago, and the first thing I realized is how frustrating it is to keep the filament on the spool, so I just had to come up with a solution for it.
Meet my Mega Anti-Tangle Spool Holder. Designed for total ease of use and compatibility with many sizes of spools, this spool holder uses the weight of the spool to clamp around it at 4 points, making it almost impossible for a rogue coil to spring off and cause you issues.
This has been designed and tested to work with spools in the range of 145mm to 210mm in diameter, and anywhere up to 94mm in width. It can probably work with spools greater than 210mm (dia), but I have not been able to test it further. It can even be folded away quite compact, which was a totally accidental perk.
Also designed to be 3D printer friendly, none of the parts require supports, just print as already oriented in the stl files.
The only additional components you will need are 8x 608 bearings, however there is 2 different versions of the arms available, and I strongly recommend using the ones with "w-m3" in the title, which allows for reinforcing the bearing holders with M3 screws and nuts. This therefore requires an additional 8x M3x15 screws and 8x M3 nuts, but if you want to risk it without the screws you can just use the arms with "blind" in the title.
Quantities you need to print:
1x "sh base p1 v1"
2x "sh base p2 v1"
2x "sh base p3-left v1"
2x "sh base p3-right v1"
2x "sh arm left blind v1" OR "sh arm left w-m3 v1"
2x "sh arm right blind v1" OR "sh arm right w-m3 v1"
2x "sh arm cross beam top v1"
2x "sh arm cross beam bottom v1"
4x "sh roller male v1"
4x "sh roller female v1"
