3D Model of OEM Lenovo T420 HDD Cover
Important: This model was made using a caliper to measure a real object. It's likely that it will be a lot flimsier than the real thing, so I recommend adapting the model's thickness in some areas. Again this is a model of a real object and wasn't designed with printing in mind, so if you try to print it without modifications, then you will likely have bad results.
The side furthest from the screw hole - or the side closest to the front of the laptop - has a curve. Measuring the curve is hard and so the curve will not be perfect; it will be up to you to sand it down, the same applies to any area that needs sanding. For reference, the actual hdd cover I modeled this off of doesn't exactly sit flush either so don't worry about it too much.
You will need a screw to secure the cover: the one they provided me is a total of 15.13mm long with a screw shaft of 13.73mm and a 1.88mm diameter; threading is really tiny, maybe .3mm. The head is flat with a phillips driver and has a diameter of 3.62mm. Most of the threading is not used so you could easily just find a screw that is both long and thin enough to fit in the hole and I suppose just thread the new screw through the laptop's board. Without the screw, the only thing that holds the cover on is the tiny ridge on the opposite side of the screw hole and the tiny ramp on the side. I don't expect you to find the exact screw with these specifications, but I hope it helps.
Total Length: 15.13mm
Shaft Length: 13.73mm
Shaft Diameter: 1.88mm
On the interior middle section, there is a raised area that is meant to support some foam. The foam is not necessary. The screw hole does not have the "HDD" icon next to it.
This was only designed to work on Lenovo T420; the T420s is slimmer and will likely not accept this model.
I did this because this one thing cost me nearly $10, now its free
