In 1971, IBM introduced the follow up to its’ highly successful Selectric 1 electric typewriter – the IBM Selectric II. Like its’ predecessor, the Selectric 2 retained the 88 character spherical shaped “typeball” that skimmed across the paper typing characters, but several improvements were introduced, such as a new standard 15” case with squarer corners, a new 'dual-pitch' model able to switch from ten-pitch (ten characters per inch), to twelve pitch (twelve characters per inch). while maintaining the original 10 and 12 pitch versions, half backspace lever (dual-pitch models only), and elimination of spool-type ribbons in favor of a new multi-color cartridge based film ribbon system, while keeping the original separate Selectric fabric cartridge system. This model represents a 10 pitch Selectric II with a Gen-3 trackball and black IBM Fabric Ribbon with corresponding fabric cartridge carrier. Details accessed via the Scenes Tabs.
