In 1961, IBM introduced its’ revolutionary IBM Selectric electric typewriter, replacing the standard “basket” of individual type bars and moving carriage with an 88 character interchangeable golf ball sized “trackball” plus ribbon that skims across the stationary platen and paper as it rotates and pivots to the desired character while striking the page. Available in either 10 or 12 pitch models, the Selectric could be ordered in two separate versions – one using a spooled film typewriter ribbon, the other a re-usable fabric ribbon cartridge. The model shown here represents an early 1962 10-pitch Level 1model with optional blue keys and accents and equipped with a Gen 1 pinch type “trackball” and an original Gen 1spool type film ribbon. Details accessed via Scene Tabs, including an original ad for the Selectric typewriter via Scene Tab 1. Thanks to modeler Jh K. whose IBM Typewriter model was the basis for this version.
