First introduced in 1970, the IBM 3330 Data Storage System was a multi-model disk drive system consisting of the IBM 3333 Dual Disk Drive / Control module, the IBM 3330 Disk Dive module, and the IBM 3336 Multi-Disk Hard Drive Pack. The IBM 3333 coupled a control unit with dual 3330 disk drives to form the main subsystem module, which could then be combined with up to three additional dual disk 3330 drive modules to form an eight drive subsystem, with each drive housing a removable multi-disk drive pack within a pull-out tray. The standard eight drive Model 1(1970) had a total capacity of 800-million bytes of online data storage, while the eight drive Model 11 (1973) doubled that capacity. Additionally, by using the optional IBM 3830 Storage Control Unit Model 2, up four eight-drive subsystems could be connected to a single computer system. This model depicts four IBM 3330 Dual Disk modules coupled to an IBM 3830 Storage Control Unit, with IBM 3336 Disk Pack accessed via scene tabs.
