Built in the 1890's, Horns bridge viaduct carried the 'Dukeries route' of the LD&EC railway into Chesterfield from Spital. It spanned Derby road, Hasland road, the Midland railway, the Great Central railway (Chesterfield loop) and the river Rother. The line continued to the west on a high embankment, terminating at the Market Place station. Demolition began in 1960, the last section being removed in 1984 to allow for alterations to Derby road and the building of Horns bridge roundabout. Today, a small section of the viaduct can still be seen between Frankie & Benny's and the existing Horns bridge at the bottom of Hasland road. I constructed this model for Google Earth to illustrate just how much this area of Chesterfield has changed through the years. #bridge #Chesterfield #Coast #Derbyshire #Dukeries #East #Horns #Lancashire #LDEC #Railway #viaduct
