The International Maritime Organization, an acronym for IMO (from the International Maritime Organization) is a specialized UN institute charged with developing the principles and techniques of international maritime navigation in order to promote the design and development of international maritime transport by making it more secure and orderly. The IMO convention adopted by the member countries provides for standards regarding the rules to prevent collisions at sea (COLREG), the standards of construction and compartmentalization of ships, as well as the fire-fighting, plant, survival and rescue (SOLAS) equipment, the training and certification of maritime personnel (STCW). In addition, the IMO defines the protocols for marine accident investigations followed by the transport safety authorities of the signatory countries of the international civil navigation convention. #flag #ONU #IMO
