The International Civil Aviation Organization (in English the International Civil Aviation Organization, ICAO) is an autonomous United Nations agency charged with developing the principles and techniques of international air navigation, routes and airports and promoting design and development of international air transport by making it safer and more orderly. The ICAO Council adopts standards and recommendations concerning air navigation and civil aviation. In addition, ICAO defines the protocols for aviation accident investigations followed by the transport safety authorities of the signatory countries of the International Civil Aviation Convention, better known as the Chicago Convention.
