This part cooling duct snakes its way underneath the carriage between the timing belts of the x-axis to the extrusion head. It has been designed to force two streams of air at the tip of the extrusion head. I've tried to get those streams of air perpendicular to one another.
The duct is designed to have a piece of tubing inserted into one side, which can exit the printer through the opening roof panel. That tube can then be connected to whatever means of pressurising air you have. I have found an aquarium air pump works well as it is designed to be relatively quiet, run continuously, and be adjustable. This external pump configuration has the benefit of keeping the weight of the carriage down.
The photos show the difference that having this part cooling system makes. Those prints differ ONLY by the application of the part cooling system.
Ideally one would modify the Repeiter firmware so that the control line going to the extruder fan can be used instead to control the air pump connected to this duct. The existing extruder fan should be fine with with a fixed speed output.
I would love to hear from anyone who gives this part a try, whether positive or negative comments.
