Known also as the Common box or European Box, Buxus Sempervirens is a species of flowering evergreen shrub native to western and southern Europe, northwest Africa, and Southwest Asia. Usually reaching heights between 3-30 ft, this species typically grows on soils derived from chalk and limestone, and on open dry montane scrub, particularly in the mediterrean region. Box remains a very popular ornamental plant in gardens, being particularly valued for topiary and hedges because of its small leaves, evergreen nature, tolerance of close shearing, and scented foliage. The scent is not to everyone's liking: its prevalence in royal gardens was often influenced by the rulers proclivity or aversion to its odor. It has been likened by some to the scent of cat urine. leaf nature flora tree growth hedge evergreen garden flower landscape boxwood xfrog xfrog plants pbr growfx forest landscaping conifer plant bush flower bush flower garden forest tree
