Spearheaded by Robert Stoddard and designed by architects Lucius W. Briggs and Frederic C. Hirons, the Worcester Memorial Auditorium was constructed in 1933 as a monument to the veterans of World War I. Among the most important features of the structure is the large scale mural located at the upper level which was painted by world renowned artist Leon Kroll. The most notable sections of the building include the Memorial Hall and Lobby, the Grand Auditorium, and the Little Theatre. These rooms served as venues for the performing arts, college basketball, high school graduations, and a variety of celebrations and receptions. Famous acts including the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Sonny and Cher, and Prince all performed in the building. More recently, given the age of the building and because more suitable space has became available throughout Worcester, the use of the building has sharply declined. Recently, the Worcester Juvenile Court relocated from the structure, leaving the building minimally utilized. #Auditorium #Frederic_C_Hirons #Juvenile_Court #Lucius_W_Briggs #Massachusetts #Memorial #Robert_Stoddard #veterans #War #Worcester #World_War_I
