The Woodie Copter started off as way to make inexpensive quad frames for teaching people how to fly. As I built more of them and refined the design I began to 3D print the connecting parts. The Woodie Copter is not the coolest looking quad or the most High Tech. It is a inexpensive platform for beginners and hobbyist who want a easily repairable and replaceable frame. The frame is made from printed parts mated to 3/8 and ½ inch square sticks sold at Lowe's or any hardware store. It can easily be scaled up or down just by the length of the square sticks. The foam landing gear absorbs the abuse of learning to fly and also serve as a mounting point for the floats.
Outfitted with some LED strip the Woodie Copter has great visibility for beginners. For a fun flying LOS trainer I use 17” outer frame sticks, producing a 24” diagonal. (A 450 size quad). Flown in the “+” configuration it looks like a diamond and gives the pilot a better visual reference than a “X” quad. The “X” version is better for FPV and photography.
Both the “X” and “+” parts are included in the package. Also included are center sections for popular flight control boards such as the Eagle Tree Vector, BeeRotor, CC3D and a blank surface. Two different GPS antenna mounts are included and the Eagle Tree mount has a integrated GPS tower mount. There are also two types of center section mounts for “+” copters and fore and aft “X” center sections with and without camera mounts and transmitter mounts for FPV. A center mount for the Feyi Tech 2D GoPro gimbal is included.

To make a "+" Copter which looks like a diamond in flight, print:
4 Woodie Corner Bracket Foam LG
2 Woodie Copter Fore and Aft Center Bracket Drop Top
2 Woodie Drop Top Corner Brace
A center section appropriate for your FC board.
Purchase 4 1/2 inch square sticks and 2 3/8 Square sticks
Piece of foam pipe insulation 1 3/4 inch OD
To make a "X" copter which looks like a square, print:
4 Woodie Corner Bracket Foam LG
2 of the Woodie X Center Brackets, FPV camera mount, TX holder and plain are included
A center section appropriate for your FC board.
Purchase 4 1/2 inch square sticks and 2 3/8 Square sticks
Piece of foam pipe insulation 1 3/4 inch OD
I use GOOP to glue the foam landing gear on. CA, wood glue or Goop for the corner brackets. The floats are a 4 inch foam ball from the craft store with a 20CC syringe cover glued into it. The foam ball must be closed cell type foam or it will get water logged. The + Copter works best on floats and is very stable. A piece of light plywood with Velcro works great for the battery holder on the bottom of the center section. The center section has standoffs with holes in it to mount the battery holder.
