Weather instrument with anemometer and wind vane.
Made with 4 printed parts.
there is a 5mm screw attached on the bottom part (40 mm long in my setup).
a 608zz bearing is fixed between rotor and cups with 3mm screws.
a 9mm magnet(from a bicycle odometer) is inserted on the rotor

the wind speed is calculated with a reed switch

for the wind vane, a continuous single turn potentiometer is used
Use with arduino as described here:http://cactus.io/hookups/weather/anemometer/davis/hookup-arduino-to-davis-anemometer-software
Update:
The electronic I use are the following:
one potentiometer for the wind vane, just an example bellow but can be other type. Secure it on the 'top' part.http://www.conrad.com/ce/en/product/1055299/Single-turn-rotary-pot-Mono-1-W-1-k-Bourns-1-pcs
one reed switch (any type) triggered by a magnet attached to the rotor. it is inserted from inside into a piece called, by me, 'bottom'. secure it with hot glue
an arduino mini to calculate the wind speed and directionhttps://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/arduinoBoardProMini
I'm not good with electronics but I have managed to hook up the wires to arduino with the info I found online.
The arduino code is the one fromhttp://cactus.io/hookups/weather/anemometer/davis/hookup-arduino-to-davis-anemometer-wind-speed
One M5 hexagonal screw attached and secured on the 'bottom' part will be the rotor axe.
4 M3 40mm screws to join the main 2 parts (top & bottom) and 3 M3 20mm screws to fix the cups on the rotor.
This project it's on hold until spring but I can share some results from testing it:
my potentiometer is hard to turn by hand and it's not so effective for wind direction.
the rotor it's easy to turn even on low winds and the readings are accurate
4 wire connection for 5V and serial reading is attached to the arduino and you cannot reprogram it while the case is closed (because you need to press the reset button)
because is winter I didn't test it outside to calibrate it
UPDATE 2:

added new anemometer cups with support for 2 bearingshttp://www.thingiverse.com/download:3548001
