Update 22 April 2018
Added just a smidgen more clearance for the XY joiner to address tolerance issues.
Updated 20 Feb 2018
Reworked box for MKS Gen L (I had the holes slightly off.
Lid now comes with hole for 60mm fan and a version without (cut your own.)
Spool Holder finished.
You will need a short section of threaded rod and an assortment of bearings, nuts washers etc. See pic for assembly (left to right in photo.)
First off, this variant would not have happened without the fantastic design by Mrice.
My main motive was two fold. First to make alignment of the Y-Axis stiffer and easier to assemble. Second to clean up the rat’s nest that was my first Wilson II build (See last picture, I’m so ashamed!) LOL.
The main changes were to the Y-axis and how it mounts to the main frame.
A warning, at around 80% infill the set will take the better part of a spool to print out all the pieces. What you get in return is (I think) a much more rigid (and Square) frame and therefore a slightly easier build due to less fidgeting with alignment (not that “I” had an issue with that....) Any piece not represented (entire Z-axis) utilizes the original Wilson II pieces.
I really like the endstops pre-mounted on the small red PCBs So my design(s) incorporate those (X motor end and Y motor end.) You will also need some of the corrugated wire wrap (and zip ties.)
The Power supply mount is specifically designed for a ASTEC Artesyn LCM600Q-N DC Power Supply (24V) I debated on whether to include it, but maybe someone will remix it to make it suitable for more generic power supplies. I originally experimented with quick disconnects on power supplies… then it occurred to me, maybe I should just buy better power supplies rather than swapping out cheap Chinese made ones. You could also just drill holes in the existing mount for your supply.
The box for the electronics has two slots for prototype PCB boards (30x70mm) I've used one to mount drivers for status LEDs and a voltage divider for the inductive sensor.
STILL in Progress are;
A lid for the box (probably will print in clear).
Spool holder.
LCD mount.
So, what does 2K refer to, I’m not sure… maybe the 2 thousand (or more) I’ve spent on this “hobby” (Don’t tell the wife!) or the 2000+ hours I spent designing this (I started around July 2017) or maybe it goes back to my nickname (take your pick.) either way, I truly think the Wilson 2 series is one of the best designs out there!
