We are a Creative Agency, and so some of us, like to do some urban sketching. Since, we like our tools to get out of the way, we decided to design a small watercolor set that would be very portable, durable and smart.
This is the result of some trial and error. Hope you'll like it.
Features:
the "halfpans" normally used in such situations are square, but that is mostly due to the methods of production, since this palette is made for being filled with tubes than we could go with more user friendly roundish shape
the four magnets (5 x 5 x 2 mm) glued to the back make for a perfect stabilization for the palette. This way you can use it straight from the box, take it outside and stick it to the front of open box unveiling the whole sponge or make any other semi-permanent connection with the box
the palette has got a small handle to make it easier for taking it out of the box.
the size of pans is just our decision and you are free to modify it, but we thought that it would be nice to have some bigger pans for mixing, or for the color you use most often
The kit we use:
the 3D printed palette with neo-magnets glued with some Superglue (cyano acrylate glue)
Kaweco fountain pen box (12 x 5,5 x 2,3 cm) with extra enamel white paint inside for better mixing;
KOI waterbrush (size Medium) with the cap shortened a bit and glued back;
Face washing sponge cut in half to fit inside the box;
Winsor & Newton watercolor paints but that is just your decision
Extra magnet for using when painting standing. Just put it beneath the previous page and put the whole box on top of that page. The box will clamp to the magnet on the other side of paper and will stay in that position even when you tilt the sketchbook.
some elastic for making sure that the box doesn't open inside your bag after heavy usage (not really needed since the box closes tight - just extra safety)
also a Micron Pigma fineliner (01 on this photo), Leuchtturm pen holder and Moleskine Watercolor pocket.
