Warré hive sump floor

This is the one modificaton to the standard Warré hive that I use with either the Warré rectangular entrance or the circular hole entrance - I prefer the latter as it better replicates a natural tree cavity; the bees seem to prefer it. Originally I used the sump floor as a varroa screen and tray could be added to monitor varroa or an emergency bottom feeder could be inserted. Having learned more about the benefits of natural beekeeping I now use neither of these. However I continue to use the sump floor with a 1' coating of sawdust which helps hold the bee debris and create an natural ecosystem where beneficial microbes and insects can live within the hive. #bee #colony #floor #hive #keeping #natural #sump #Warré
