My original PrintrBoard case was a lot of fun to make. But it was not so fun to make connections in, and somewhat made me hesitant to work on my PrintrBot Simple Metal Silver. The deep body made it hard for my big hands and fingers to get inside, and the stackable Raspberry Pi has now moved off to the side in the form of an AstroBox Touch 5" LCD touchscreen controller.
I felt it was time to make a case for my PrintrBoard that was easy to work inside and that had room to make connections easily. I got a PrintrBoard Rev F6 some time ago with the larger, stronger, USB B connection port, so I wanted to design a case that would fit this as well.
I like embedded nuts, so there are voids to drop nuts into while pausing your printer at the right layer height (layer height will depend on your specified layer resolution). If you prefer tapping threads into your prints, I have included STEP source files (.stp) that can easily be modified in many CAD packages like AutoDesk's FREE to use Fusion 360 You are free to modify and customize anything, like an opening for a Micro USB connection.
I used the fan cover from my original PrintrBoard case and printed it in Black and Silver by switching filament at various layer heights. I have also drilled a hole in the side of my PrintrBot for cable access, but with the STEP files this can be modified to suit how you would like to manage your cables.
