Standard fidget spinner shape, designed to be printed in vase / spiral mode, inspired by Whosawhatsis's quick print bearing. I made this for printing at the Bay Area Maker Faire today (May 20, 2017), in the Bay Area Reprap Booth. Between printing all day and a bunch printed the night before, I think I gave away almost a hundred of these.
Coincidentally I met Whosawhatsis there today. He's working what looks like is going to be an awesome little printer he calls the Cranestyle Mini.
Print with a 0.5mm extrusion width. The example prints were printed at a 0.125mm layer height and the speed set to 100mm/sec (though it was probably acceleration limited to a slower speed, total print time at those settings was 7-8 minutes). I was able to get prints down to about 3 minutes but didn't like the thick layers.
This design uses thin cuts to make it print in vase mode, may not work in all slicers (I'm using Simplify3D). There are a few welding cuts, to attach the inner wall to the outer wall, and stitching cuts to strengthen some of the joined walls.
Uses standard 608 skate bearings, available at banggood* and amazon*, printed with Atomic Filament PLA. The colors comes out quite a bit different in thin wall prints like this significantly lighter than when printing solid.
I find it easiest to assemble by inserting the outer bearings first, pressing against the inside spring to insert them, then adding the center bearing last. There are small retaining ridges that makes the bearing harder to insert, but helps to hold them in place.
