valkyrie 6mm reinforced whoop frame
REVISION 1:
the alpha (dated 3/17/18) was a shocking 8 grams. it was clear that even serious editing wouldn't make this thing airworthy. i gave it a go anyway, teh r1 (dated 3/18/18) removes reinforcement on the outer edges of the ducts, cuts out the underside of the inner cross supports (they are flat in the alpha) and reduces the width of most structural elements from 1.2mm to 0.8mm. i'm sure its still going to be waay too heavy. maybe you have a lighter print media than i.
REVISION 2.
(dated 3/22/18) the flanged section on rev. 1 ducts have a 0.8mm lateral width, for some reason my setup printed them as one strand and the print was ruined due to "stringys". so: rev.2 reintroduces a thinner version of the "bumper"/"lip" from rev.1 which encloses all outward parts of the ducts to make the flange section thicker. as such it can be expected to be slightly heavier than rev.1. if i flick between the first and last thingiverse images, i can hardly see any difference.
also: though not present on the .stl, there is a minute gap that appears on my prints where the outward scaffolds join to the vertical support on the duct, like a tiny vertical crease between the two. i added an element to the source to fill this point (which is really inside the two elements), but my rev.2 print still displays funny behaviour here (either tiny gap or overextrusion bumps). shame because the join was smooth on the alpha. so if anything, rev.2 ought to be heavier than rev.1, but the print i just pulled off but haven't trimmed yet feels so delicate and light. maybe a different material than ABS would be suitable, ymmv.
FIRST FLIGHT NOTES:
loaded frame with flight controller, a new set of 17500k motors and tri blades (convenience). lift was pretty lousy but not as bad as i thought it would be, it was just slow, maybe half the punch rate i'd consider decent. so in this case the tight duct did not provide enough advantage to make up for the weight. at some point i will revise this frame to fit 7mm and add separate feet like the stunod, but it will still fall under artwork with the weight of the print in ABS.
GENERAL NOTES
this design is for the e011 flight controller, 29mm from front to rear screw mounts, 36mm across. at some point in time i'll upload a generic, equidistant mount frame (just change the rear parabola to the same as the other mounts).
its a tiny bit larger than 65mm, around 67 or 68. the props have 0.5mm clearance to maximise the duct effect. push your props as far down as they will go!
no batt support, i only use rubber bands and don't have any of the standard size batts people use for whoops.
print takes a while, 2+ hours, designed for 0.2mm layer height with a 0.4mm nozzle.
