V2 Airlines (1990 FICTIONAL]) - McDonnell Douglas DC-8-71

In 1988, Central Air Lines' DC-8-71 fleet was ageing. The oldest, Ship No. 600 (as portrayed here), was originally delivered to the company in 1967, making the airframe nearly 21 years of age. Another issue was the newer 767s and 757s Central had ordered were operational on the exact same routes as the DC-8-71s they were supposed to be replacing. In 1989, after long debates, Central Air Lines management made the smart decision to retire the entire DC-8-71 fleet. For months, the aircraft sat untitled and logo-less while Central tried to find a customer. United and Delta, who had already retired their 71s rejected. UPS however, generously purchased half of the retired fleet, but 8 aircraft remained. Finally, in 1990, V2 Airlines purchased the 8 remaining DC-8-71s. All the aircraft were immediately painted in full V2 livery and delivered to the airline within 10 business days. One of these aircraft was N722BN, who's ill fated sistership, N721BN, crashed in Los Angeles after a midair collision as Central Air Lines Flight 909. All of V2's DC-8s were converted to freighters in 2002 and currently still serve with the airline. The reason for the purchase and further details are up to AirbusA330 to decide.
