Last crawled date: 2 years, 9 months ago
The “637-Class” submarines, also known as the “Sturgeon” class, were nuclear-powered attack submarines in service from the mid-1960s until the last was decommissioned in 2004. The Sturgeon class were the last U.S. submarines to be named for fish, with all being named for famous World War II fleet submarines. Complement: 14 officers, 95 men Length: 292 feet (short versions), 302 feet (long versions). Beam: 32 feet. Draft: 28.8 feet. Speed: 25 knots. Operating depth: 1,300 feet. Power Plant: (1) S5W Nuclear Reactor, (2) Steam Turbines. Armament: Mk 48 Torpedoes, Harpoon missiles, and mines. NB: I apologize for the lack of detail, but good drawings for the 637 were a bit sketchy and often saved in gif format and didn't scale well. *** The prop is from CNCH's SSN-688 sub, the rest of this model is home-grown. #submarine #nuclear #sturgeon #torpedo #us_navy
