U.S.S. Persephone (hypothetical) Chariot-class Type: cruiser Operator: UFP Starfleet Active: n/a Decks: 17 Length: approximately 130 meters Capacity: 720 humanoids Max. Speed: warp 7.7 Max. Cruising speed: warp 7.1 Armament: phasers (x6 dual phaser banks) Defenses: deflector shields ======================================== Service History This is a hypothetical rendering of the Constitution-class U.S.S. Persephone as a Chariot-class starship. Starship Background A forerunner to the Oberth-class, Chariot-class medium cruisers were used by Starfleet primarily for support roles. Equipped with large shuttlebays, cargo holds, and the most advanced sickbays of its time, Chariot-class vessels were primarily used as emergency-relief vessels. Due to the difficulties involved with managing planetary crises, Chariod-class vessels would often find themselves in-orbit of a planet for months, or even years at a time, acting as orbital command-and-control centers or small space stations for the duration of the emergency. The Chariot-class was eventually phased out of the fleet in the late 23rd century in favor of smaller, more specialized ships--like the Oberth and Soyuz--as well as larger, general-purpose starships like the Excelsior and Ambassador. Model Background Clearly I didn't devote a whole lot of time to this model, but I think it turned out well. I took some elements from my Constitution model, and set about making a vertically-oriented Federation design, sans secondary-hull. I think it looks rather nice--I particularly like how evocative the 'wing' pylons are. Yes, I know. It does resemble the Romulan bird-of-prey a bit too much. Maybe that's a bad thing? I don't know. Of course, the Romulan bird-of-prey also resembles Jeffries' Enterprise a whole lot, so there's that... but still. (Starship information is derived solely from my own imagination.) #Star_Trek #Starship
