Update 17.07.18:
I've printed and tested the Airbox and found out that the screw holes are too big and the "flaps" with the holes in it are too small to be screwed tight, resulting in insecure mounting and the box isn't airtight.
Uploaded a new version wich should fix all of the above. The screw holes are now 2.9mm and should be easily tapped by normal M3 screws.
This is a 3D-Printed AirBox / Air Filter for "Big Scale" RC-Cars 1/5 1/6. It is specifically designed for easy printing with no or very little support (see "Print Settings" for details).
This AirBox requires around 5h to print and weights around 90 grams so its just as light as a regular AirBox. For this air filter to work properly you need a microphone shaped foam air filter and appropriate air filter oil together with a zip-tie. I've not tested the capabilities of this filter yet because i don't have a foam filter for it yet. As you can see on the pictures i have printed and mounted it to the carburetor of my Smartech C-5 which has a PT 28ccm engine. It should fit most other common big scale engines like the Zenoah and CY. If you need to adjust the size of the adapter to fit your engine the STEP-File is attached.
Why did i make this?
Because its way cheaper. A good quality airbox costs around 60 money units and that is way too much for 100 grams of molded plastic and an air filter. Especially when you can get the foam air filter for 3.99 money units and print the plastic yourself for a total of around 10 money units for the finished air filter.
