This vase is designed to be printed in like-vase-mode but not in actual slicer vase mode.
The design is an offshoot of my finned plantershttps://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2999932
The design is optimized to print on larger printers like the CR-10 as it will only slice correctly when scaled close to it's native 400mm height. You can go down to 300mm but much lower than that and you will get gaps in the walls. Those can be removed by setting a small nozzle size or allowing bigger overlaps in the slicer. You will also need to reduce your layer height if you scale down to ensure the overhangs print nicely.
In simplify3d I use 3 processes to make the slicer behave itself.
One for the bottom 5mm, one for the top 5mm and one for everything in between.
I printed it with a 0.40mm nozzle, one outline, no infill and 0.2mm layer height.
Material is Silky Copper PLA (just plain shiny pla, no metal fill) which gives a nice shine and also gets fairly dark in the shadows. Also tried with carbon filled PLA, which looks nice and crisp on the edges but a bit harder to get a satisfying lighting of the entire vase.
print time is around 17 hours and uses 320 grams
The model is designed in 3D Studio MAX using a lofted shape and taking care to get the flutes to get close enough to the center core to fuse and give some extra strength.
simplify 3d factory files with the settings used to print on cr-10 S5 included as well as gcode for cr10-500mm.
2018 31 july added untested factory files for 200 and 300 mm high prints
