This holder allows to install some twigs at the ceiling around a standard lamp socket. I designed them to function as an extensive base for a mobile.
The parts have been modeled in OpenSCAD and are fully configurable. All measures one might want to alter, reside in Dimensions.scad and are fully documented. If you find anything unclear, just let me know.
The included stl files are based on a configuration for at least six arms (I only used five of the in my photos) a screw distance of 60 mm (which, I think, is a standard in Europe) and standard device screws (also shown in the pictures). The screw holes are a tight fit in this configuration, but I didn't want to sacrifice any stability.
I included my curasettings and the resulting gcode files for informational purposes only. Don't use them for direct printing unless your're pretty sure you know what you're doing.
As always: caution has to be taken when working with electricity and you should seriously know what you're doing! Make sure the lamp below the holder doesn't get too hot or too close to other parts, that might melt, burn or are conductive for electrical current.
You will want to print (times are rough estimates for an Anet A6 with all settings set to default):
one Support_Ring (4 hours)
one Distance_Ring (1 hour) to bring the whole construction away from the ceiling a bit)
up to six Arms (2 hours each)
What else is needed?
zipties and/or screws to secure the twigs in the arms (ziptie method shown in the photos)
two device screws for mounting the construction below the ceiling (or other screws if you improvise for a missing socket)
twigs or other cantilevered things to hold you mobile-things (maximum diameter is 16 mm)
The assembled construction has a total diameter of 30 cm (10 cm center + 2 x 10 cm arm). The whole construction including the twigs on the photos have roughly a diameter of 150 - 180 cm. It feels stable enough for a good amount of decoration, but always check your gut feeling! The clamps holding arms are only designed to be stable in one direction. never bend them upwards or they might break.
I'm fairly new to 3D-printing and this is my first thing designed by myself. I'd be happy to get some feedback :)
