I built 8 of these out of cedar to add some character to our patio. The bases are 4x6" logs connected on the inside with metal channels. The bottom is screen, then river rock, then top soil with a drip system. I added bolts at the bottom 4 corners to act as feet so the boxes can drain.

It's still freezing at nights here in Colorado so the vines haven't started blooming. We've had some very high winds lately and some of the boxes were shifted and 2 tipped over - so I've connected them at the top with 2x4 cedar boards and at the bottom with cleats. Last big wind (90mph+) nothing moved. I estimate the boxes weight a good 250lb so imagine the strength of the wind gusts. Notice we had to take the glass out of the table for the windy season.

If you are able to use the SolidWorks model you'll find that ALL of the lumber is in a single parts file using configurations. I find this to be most efficient at keeping down the file proliferation.
