My main design intent with the Trapper Canoe Project was to match the high quality and craftsmanship of the Trapper Canoe brand, and secondly was the ease of use and durability of the holder for the consumer.
This compact rod holder would be made up of aluminum extrusions, RTM(Resin Transfer Molding) parts, machined parts from wood & stainless steel, and purchased hardware.
The unit is placed on the canoe side and the latching lever is simply pressed down to the locked position. The clamping "jaws" are lined with cork to provide a non marring cushion. The rod holder is able to be rotated at the base by pulling on the stainless steel ring and releasing it at the desired position, by means of teeth on the main pivot shaft. The holder is also able to be tilted to the desired angle by loosening and tightening the clamping knob on the side of the center riser. This position is further secured by means of serrations at the pivoting faces.
This design should perform well in all conditions including rough water and sand, while still allowing the ease of removing the fishing pole once you have a fish, just by grabbing the pole and lifting it out of the holder. The holder self adjusts to poles ranging in size from approximately 5/8" diameter up to around 1-1/8" diameter, making it very universal. This adjustment is accomplished with the use of torsion springs on the arms that hold the wooden rollers.

Simple to use - Built to last a lifetime!
