Needed this when using an older 3rd Gen 4Runner 3.4 air cleaner with a newer 3.4 MAF (of the same generation). The old style air cleaner has the MAF that slides into the opening with a stepped rubber gasket that seals it to the box and provides a little movement when the engine flexes. The newer air cleaner has the MAF tube as an integral part of the box that cannot be detached (readily). Typically you just find the newer air cleaner and swap the whole box out, however I could not find a box that wasn't compromised due to some sort of front end damage, or I was just too late in getting it at the yards....so I settled for a damaged box with a good MAF tube. The MAF tube on the newer boxes, by my observation, is "welded" in and with careful cutting can be "extracted" rather effectively leaving you with with just the MAF tube to use in your old air cleaner. At this point the original intake hose is about .875" too short which is where this adapter comes in. It slides over the factory hole and basically bumps out the air box opening that amount (and the same diameter) to fully engage the clamping area of the intake hose to MAF tube, and for good penetration of the new MAF into the air cleaner. The new, extracted MAF tube is a super loose fit in the older air box hole so I used a little marine grade sealed rubber foam to act as the older factory MAF rubber gasket. The print was an awesome fit after some sanding to make the ID more round and not so segmented; it was so snug I almost called it good but instead opted to use some RTV adhesive silicone to seal that joint in place for a semi permanent mod. So far so good....
I highly recommend you print this in ABS being that it will be exposed to heat and other adverse conditions. That being said there are two variations of this design...one with a draft shield (basically a single wall cylinder that surrounds the print) and one without if you're super dialed for ABS. I printed mine with the shield, along with a raft, and had absolutely zero warpage...Enjoy
If model is tiny scale x10 or 1000%...
Also, if your wondering why my air cleaner looks a little shiny it's just some heat reflective insulated adhesive mat...seems to keep the heat soak down as well as the IATs...
