Top enclosure made specifically for the Ultimaker 2 aluminum extrusion printer.
The design has tabs at the bottom which fit securely into the 2020 aluminum extrusion rail. It can be easily taken off to print PLA or put back on to reduce warping with ABS or other filaments. For the 2020 rails I used 4mm clear acrylic.
There is a small notch taken out in the back right to allow the PTFE tubing to enter from the back. I feed the hotend wires through the inside of the printer (see photos) to minimize the hole size and heat loss. The design can be flipped depending on which side your extruder is on.
The acrylic was bonded using Weld-On 4 which gives it a nice clean look but could also easily put in screw holes for corner mounts. The lasercut edges were a bit rough so I sanded them to increase surface contact / bond strength.
Many thanks to jasonatepaint (designed printer) and lions3 (acrylic side and front panels). I'm really enjoying this printer!
