Final Pictures uploaded !!!
Final (I think) v4 Parts uploaded. Cleaned up as best I can too. I think I will print this one face up I think it will print without support. should be stronger in that orientation.
also included a toilet paper roll so if anyone needs a model to play with for their own projects.
I need to make 2 more changes before this is usable. I need to remove a bit of the reinforcement bar at the top (as you can see in my pictures) to clear a full roll of paper and I need to add a couple of screw holes so it can be mounted to the wall!!
My LID came out too large. it should not be too large but it was. it could be my pid tuning (my printer prints slightly larger in all dimensions than it should normally not noticiable but on a piece this tall it might be. I had to shave off a couple mm. I also did not get a clean print (nasty PLA) when I try it again I will know for sure.
I saw the toilet paper holder on reddit from japan where you simply pulled up to remove the empty roll and inserted from below to install the new roll and it would "hook in" automatically. nothing to move or slide out or remove. just slide in the new roll.
I was like. I can do that. I can design one like that.
I scrapped something up in tinker cad to confirm the mechanical operation and then cleaned it up for final print. it will take me about a day to print the final version.
the files are the final version I also included the simplify factory file for the frame since it has two areas that need separate processes if you want to keep the infill low.
just pick your own preference settings and retain the layer starts and stops this particular factory file is tuned for a maker select wanhao i3v2 using a flexion extruder
Purely by accident I discovered when I decided to make the posts stick out further and before I shrank the left right dimension of the frame I realized I had goofed and did not enlarge the cavity to recieve the post.
this turned out to be a wonderful mistake as I discovered the roll still fit between the upturned posts but since they were past vertical in the needed direction no spring sponge or rubber band was needed. 100% gravity drive baby :-)
nice.
for the mechanical prototype I just shoved filament into the hole for the hinge. tomorrow I will go get some bamboo skewers which should work perfectly and is what I designed for. this is not only much easier than trying to concoct some printable hinging solution but far easier cheaper and more reliable and serviceable if the need should arise.
this is the first slightly more complicated and also very functional design I have made from scratch.
