Help Group discussion • Three-stranded rope can be constructed along a helical path, using the follow-me tool • However, this produces geometry that will never be seen, inside the rope (between the strands) • To construct only the outer visible faces, a cross-section of the rope can be incrementally push/pulled and rotated to produce the mesh • Cleanup involves removal of internal cross-section faces, and 'smoothing' of the strand surface elements • The 'intersecting' lines that serve as boundaries between adjacent strands are not smoothed • This method provides a lower polygon count, while maintaining the appearance of the original follow-me construction • When examining the model, be sure to turn on hidden-geometry visibility, especially when comparing the last two samples #helical #helix #Rope #spiral #strand #twist
