The Ultimate Filament Box Clip
Why?
There thousands of filament clips, but none of them (that I could find) are designed to mount securely to a filament box. After building my filament boxes (using [contoured holes] (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3541899)), I quickly found that the spool rollers are so smooth and easy to spin that I can end up with filament either pulling back into the box, or pushing out all over the place. I needed a secure filament clip to keep things organized and in place.
Features
Easily Clip and Unclip - The filament is easy to clip in and out.
Securely Hold Filament - Once clipped, the filament will stay in place and not slip out.
Easily Replace Broken Clips - If a clip breaks, you can easily print a new one and replace it without removing the entire unit.
Tight Clip Section Fit - The clip section slides into/out of the base easily but will stay put.
Screwdriver Slot for Clip Removal - If the clip completely breaks off, there is a small slot that will allow you to push out the clip piece with a screw driver.
Solid Box Attachment - The clip base and backing mount solidly and minimally to the filament box with a single M3 bold.
Clean Look - The use of a base and back give it a very clean look and ensure it won't easily be dislodged.
Notes
If the clip doesn't work after printing, I've found that they may need a little help separating. The lower part of clip split can spit at first. A scraper gently inserted and lightly twisted will usually fix it.
I went through 32 iterations, including 6 major redesigns to arrive at this final design. I hope it works for other folks.
Printing and Using
You will need one of each piece (clip, base and back).
The clip is mounted using a M3 bolt. The bolt screws right into the back and base. I've found that a 10mm long bolt works fine on my boxes.
I screw the bolt into the back all the way, and then just turn the back to thread it on the base.
Files
Filament Clip v6.4 - Base.stl - Holds the clip and mounts to the outside of the box.
Filament Clip v6.4 - Clip.stl - An easily replaced clip and slides into the base.
Filament Clip v6.4 - Back.stl - Secures the bolt and mounts inside the box.
Filament Clip v6.4.f3d - The Fusion 360 file. I'm new to Fusion 360, so it may not be well organized.
