This hotel was bought by a family in the 1950s, who also bought the Adams hotel, Lord Charles apts, Collins Park, and 4 other hotels in this cityblock. After the family moved to upstate New York, they sold their property to another hotel chain. In 2007, the Collins Park building burned down, and the company who owned the buildings decided to partially demolish, and completely renovate the property. The Tyler hotel is currently empty, and undergoing massive restauration. The front façade is tripartite in Art Deco style. It isn't completely symmetric, because the central bay in moved slightly to the right. The central bay is decorated with five extruded purple masses. The remind of flagposts on oceanliners and old cruiseships from the 1930s and 1940s. Several eyebrows are wrapped around the rounded corners.
