Another masterpiece from L. Murray Dixon, 1936. Unlike many of the hotels on South Beach, this one is imposing both in height and formality. Although not so tall by skyscraper standards, it does have the set backs associated with skyscrapers of this era. See, for example, the American Radiator Building (1924), the McGraw-Hill Building (1930), the Daily News Building (1930), and the Chrysler Building (1930) in New York City.
