Acheulean (a-shoo-lay-en) hand axes are one of the earliest and most widespread tools in human history. They first emerged almost 2,000,000 years ago and remained a key part of man's tool kit for more than 1,500,000 years. Patterns of wear and tear indicate that hand axes were used for myriad purposes, from gently crushing plant fibers to violently bashing heads - a Stone Age Swiss Army Knife!
This model will let you print your own Acheulean hand axe. It is based on a 3d scan of an actual hand axe from an archaeological site, so it is identical in size and shape to the real thing. Holding it lets you see for yourself how easily it fits in the hand and could be put to work in all kinds of ways. Please be a good citizen though - no head bashing!
