After Star Trek, The Original Series (TOS) was canceled in 1969, the eleven foot Enterprise filming model was put into storage until its’ donation by Paramount Pictures to the Smithsonian Institute in 1974 where it underwent a major restoration for its’ display in the National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC. It underwent a second major restoration in 1991 for the museum’s “Star Trek’s 25th Anniversary Exhibition” from February 1992 to January 1993. Afterwards, the model was moved to the museum’s basement Gift Shop area where it remains today. Shown is the 1991 restored Enterprise, its’ series filming stand and exhibit case in its' gift shop setting. The Gerrysax Enterprise was extensively modified using drawings by Charles Casimiro (http://home.earthlink.net/~casimiro/) and detailed photos of the current Smithsonian model (http://mjtsc,pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/new/1701/htm). The model depicts the controversial weathered paint scheme with gridlines, the un-detailed port (left side) of the model (never shown in the original series due to electrical cabling running down that side of the model), and the un-restored top surface of the saucer section which still retains the original series paint, a strict condition set down by Paramount Pictures when it originally donated the model to the museum. Thanks to Gerrysax for his Enterprise, LittleSketcher ExPoZ / Google for the 2D families.
