El Palacio real de Madrid (Royal Palace of Madrid), also known as 'Palacio de Oriente' (East Palace), is the official residence of the King of Spain in the city of Madrid and is used for State occasions, however the private residence of the royal family is the Palace of Zarzuela. The site of the palace dates from a 10th-century fortress. It burned in 1734, and then the King Philip V ordered a new palace built on the same location. The king Carlos III was the first to reside there. Inside we can find vast artistic wealth, from the bulding noble materials to the works of art in its halls, like the panting of artist like El Greco, Rubens, Caravaggio, Velazquez, Goya, Tiepolo, Mengs, Bayeu. Other important collections in this place are and the world's only complete Stradivarius string quintet, the Royal Armory, tapestry, porcelain, clocks, furniture, and other objects of great historical importance.
