Built in 1854, the Old Point Loma Lighthouse overlooks San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean. It is situated at 422 feet above sea level, which seemed good at first. The builders figured out later there was lower fog, that kept it from being seen some nights. It is now protected as a National Monument.
