I ran out of the 1-inch buckles i needed to complete a costume. I tried a few off of thingiverse and just wasn't impressed. This is the design i figured i would find when i searched but nothing like it came up. just replicas of the manufactured ones which really don't work well being printed. I designed these with PLA and FDM in mind. So I present to you The Ultimate Simple 3d Printed Buckle (1 inch variant)
DISCLAIMER:
I designed this buckle to connect cosplay armor to a nylon strap harness. I trust it to do that job.
I would not trust it to hold my 30lb backpack together daily, and I certainly wouldn't use it for any crucial equipment without extensive modification and further testing.
Trying to pull it apart, when connected, results in the clip stretching at its base. this deforms and changes the angle of the prongs making them susceptible to no catching properly.
Please use these only in an appropriate capacity.
The repeatable springiness comes from having the printer draw simple and very few lines to the buckle. The extrusions that make up the clip are 1.2mm thick, this is so that with a .4mm or .6mm nozzle, it is only going to take 2-3 strokes over an area to print, no infill, no squiggles.
The prongs on the male piece are angled wider than the opening on the female, after giving the mechanism a little bit of play, it will settle into a narrower angle that still has a respectable spring in it.
