An airport terminal (often called Terminal Terminal) is an airport building that allows the transfer of passengers from the terrestrial to the aeronautical transportation system and vice versa. Inside the terminal, passengers buy tickets, transfer their luggage, and pass security checks. Buildings providing access to planes (via gates) are generally called moles. However, the term 'terminal' and 'pier' are sometimes used interchangeably, depending on the configuration of the airport. Smaller airports have a terminal while larger airports have more terminals or quays. In small airports, the single terminal building typically serves all the functions of a terminal and a pier. Some larger airports have a terminal that is connected to multiple piers via gangways, sky-bridges or underground tunnels (such as Denver International Airport). Some larger airports have more than one terminal, each with one or more quays (such as JFK in New York). Yet other larger airports have more terminals, each of which incorporates the functions of a pier (such as Dallas / Fort Worth International Airport). According to Frommers, most airport terminals are built in a simple style made of concrete in the 1960s and 1970s, then passed to the glass in the 1980s and 1990s. However, some such as Baghdad International Airport are monumental, While others are considered architectural masterpieces, such as Terminal 1 at Charles de Gaulle airport near Paris or Terminal 5 at JFK airport in New York. Some are designed to reflect the culture of a particular area, some examples being the terminal at Albuquerque International Airport in New Mexico, which was designed in Pueblo Revival style popular by architect John Gaw Meem, as well as the Bahías terminal Huatulco Huatulco International Airport, Oaxaca, Mexico, featuring some palapas that are interconnected to form the airport terminal. #terminal
